Reduction in the number of housing starts in June

 The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism released statistics on construction starts for June 2023.
 The number of new housing construction started in the same month was 71,015 units (down 4.8% from the same month last year). The floor area of new housing construction commenced at 5,722,000 square meters (down 5.1%), a five-month consecutive decrease. In terms of seasonally adjusted annual rate, the number of households decreased to 811,000 (down 5.9%).
 By usage relationship, the number of households owned by households decreased by 12.4%, a decline for 19 consecutive months. The number of leasing houses decreased by 31,112 households (0.6 percent). Distributed houses declined to 28,84 units (down 2.9% year-on-year), of which 8,422 units (down 7.2% year-on-year), a two-month increase, and 11,606 units (down 8.5% year-on-year), an eight-month decrease.
 In the three major metropolitan areas, the total number of households in the metropolitan area was 23,320 (down 6.1%), of which 4,292 were owned (down 12.6%), 11,241 were rented (down 5.2%), and 7,704 were for sale (down 15.3%). The total number of households in the Chubu region decreased by 8,070 (down 8.0% year-on-year), of which 2,973 were owned (down 10.5% year-on-year), 2,865 were rented (down 13.9% year-on-year), and 2,177 were for sale (down 3.6% year-on-year). The total number of households in the Kinki region was 10,705 (down 8.4% year-on-year), 2,509 households (down 17.3% year-on-year), 4,826 households (down 11.4% year-on-year), and 3,306 households for sale (down 5.3% year-on-year).
